Use cases
The cleanest way to understand an oracle is to look at what people actually build with it. Below is a tour of the patterns that show up over and over in the 711+ apps Pyth powers. If you are deciding whether your idea fits, the answer is probably yes.
Perpetual DEXes
Perp exchanges price every open interest position, every funding payment, and every liquidation against a mark. Cheap, fresh prices are the whole product. Pyth's 400ms cadence and confidence intervals are what make perps possible without a centralized backstop.
Examples: Synthetix, Hyperliquid (partial), Drift, Jupiter Perps, Vertex, IPOR, Polynomial — every major on-chain perp on Solana, Arbitrum, Base.
Spot DEX & oracle swaps
An "oracle swap" quotes prices off-chain and settles on-chain. The router asks Pyth for a fresh price, applies a small spread, and lets the user fill at that mark with no slippage. Better quotes than an AMM for thin markets.
Examples: DODO, Hashflow, Pendle's oracle pool, Kamino swap.
Lending markets
Lending uses prices in two places: valuing collateral on deposit, and triggering liquidations when LTV crosses a threshold. The confidence interval lets these protocols be conservative — value collateral at price - conf and your users never get liquidated by a glitch.
Examples: Kamino, MarginFi, Drift Lend, Morpho, Silo, Vesu.
Real World Assets
Tokenized treasuries, gold, oil, stocks — every RWA needs a settled price for NAV, mints, and redemptions. Pyth carries the equity, FX, and commodity feeds these protocols rely on, signed by the same firms that price the underlying off-chain.
Examples: Ondo, Backed, Maple, Centrifuge, Plume ecosystem.
Stablecoin issuance
Collateralized stablecoins (CDP-style) need oracle prices to mint and to liquidate. Algorithmic and partially-backed designs use Pyth for peg monitoring and rebase logic.
Examples: Frax, USDe (Ethena), USDz, USD0 (Usual), GHO collateral.
Gaming & randomness
Loot drops, NFT trait rolls, in-game lotteries, free-respin mechanics — anything where the outcome should be unpredictable to both the player and the developer. Pyth Entropy is the building block.
Examples: Coin-flip games, Wheel of Pyth-style spinners, on-chain casinos.
Options & structured products
Options vaults need a mark for premium pricing, Greeks calculation, and settlement. The 1ms update path through Lazer is what lets these vaults compete with off-chain market-makers without getting picked off.
Examples: Aevo, Lyra, Premia, Stryke, Dopex.
Prediction markets & insurance
Pay-out triggers on real-world prices: crypto over $X by date Y, weekly equity returns, weather-tied insurance. Benchmarks gives you the verifiable historical price the settlement contract reads at expiry.
Examples: Polymarket-style markets, Nexus Mutual-style covers.
